Migraines and Alcohol

Do you find alcohol triggering your migraines? If so, Alice talks about the effects of alcohol on those people who suffer from migraines.

I have suffered from migraines from about the age of 11, so it's been 11 years now, and I feel like I am pretty clued up on the things that can trigger migraines. I have found alcohol can be one of them.

Although alcohol is a trigger, it usually comes along side a lot of different other things. It's not a huge risk factor. It's not something you probably should worry about, but maybe if you've noticed a trend, perhaps you should see if alcohol is the actual cause of them.

Usually, alcohol may trigger a migraine pretty much straight away, or it may contribute to the hangover phase. It can add to your pain of the drinking, and it might make a little bit worse for you.

Could Red Wine Be a Trigger for Your Migraine?

After doing a little bit of research, I've realized that a lot of people who suffer from alcohol as a trigger say that red wine is usually the most common cause. But then also there are some other studies where it can be different kinds of alcoholic beverages that cause it.

So, it's probably something that you need to tailor to yourself and just keep an eye on. Of course, small doses of alcohol are going to be fine.

Just look after yourself and make sure that they aren't directly linked with you having migraines, because obviously, you don't want to be encouraging more migraines to happen.

I mean, various different foods can cause migraines, different changes in temperature, different changes in environment.

It depends on the person themselves. So maybe, if you haven't yet found your trigger, alcohol could be the solution, but it's definitely not a very widespread common thing for alcohol to be the cause.

In Conclusion...

All-in-all, people with migraines are more susceptible to have a migraine as a result of drinking alcohol.

However, more than likely, the alcohol headache that you are experiencing is probably just to do with the alcohol consumption and your body trying to get rid of that.

Just make sure you look after yourself whilst you are drinking alcohol and when you are a migraine sufferer.
